They turned out in droves - 11,000 of them. Despite the early hours and pouring rain, would-be singing stars lined up outside the Veterans Memorial Arena, packing a path that snaked around the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville and through the parking lot of the Jacksonville Municipal Stadium.
