Qualifying for Special Elections in Duval and surrounding counties began Wednesday and will run through Friday, June 20. Two City Council positions are up for grabs: the Group 2, At-Large seat created by a court order, and the District 10 representative's seat recently vacated by Mia Jones. The move allows her to run for the state House.

Duval County School Board seats are open for Districts 1,3 and 7. Two State Representative seats also are open for Districts 12 and 15.

City Council representatives agree to a four-year term and serve as part-time legislators. The full Council meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. in the Council Chambers City Hall at St. James (117 West. Duval Street). Council committees meet in the Chamber on the first and third weeks of the month.

State Representative candidates must be residents of their districts upon taking office and a resident of the state for at least two years prior to the election.
